Profile: Glenn Kirby, Southampton, England

Glenn gained an FD , NC and ND at Sparsholt College Hampshire. In America Glenn worked for Westchester Country Club and Oak Hill C.C. He also attended classes for the winter quarter at OSU. Glen is now employed at The London club as head Greenkeeper of the Heritage Course. Glenn stated on his experience in the USA:
“The OSU Program gave me a fantastic opportunity to work, learn and study with some of the very best people within the industry. The experience and knowledge I gained exceeded my expectations. I made some great friends and returned to the UK with more confidence, both in and out of the work place”. |

Profile: Eamonn McCarthy, Bantry, Ireland.

Eamonn gained an ND and HND at Myerscough College.He gained experience at Southward Ho CC in NY and then moved to Harbor town Golf Links in SC. He gained tournament experience at The K-Club in Ireland, Harbourtown SC, Wimbledon UK, and at Royal Melbourne GC in Australia. He used his experience in the USA and the contacts he made there to travel with the job and currently is working for Aphrodite Hills GC in Cyprus as assistant superintendent. Eamonn told us:
“After spending 18 months on the Ohio State International internship program I would highly recommend it to foreign students who wish to learn from the most technically advanced superintendents in the world. The experience also educated me in management of vast financial and personnel systems. Finally it allowed me to take my career where I wanted to go in the world”. |

Profile: John Gubb North Devon United Kingdom

John had gained practical experience in England in Ilford GC and also East Sussex National. John studied at Myerscough College in England and came to the states in 1998; he qualified with an ND in Sports turf from Myerscough. His internship was at East Lake CC in Atlanta where he gained tournament experience with the end of season Players Championship.
Currently he is working at the Bedfordshire as course manager.

Profile: Simon Doyle Delgany Co. Wicklow, Ireland
|
Simon gained his education at Reaseheath College where he received an HND in sports turf. On the program Simon received training at Oak Hill CC and also Westchester CC as well as also attending classes for three months.
Simon is currently in Asia overseeing approximately 80 golf courses working for Goldman Sachs.
His video shows clearly how much he thought of the course and how it allowed him to move rapidly upward within the industry.

Profile: Ms Wendy O'Brien, United Kingdom
|
Wendy worked at Carden Park GC in Cheshire while doing her NVQ levels 1 and 2 through distance learning in Myerscough College. Wendy came to the states and went to Kingsmill Resort where she gained PGA tour event experience with the Michelob Open. Wendy then went to Augusta National GC where she interned and gained experience of preparing one of the worlds best known courses for the Masters. Wendy also continued her education in the states and gained her NVQ level 3 qualification via the internet with Myerscough College.
Wendy is currently in Carden Park assisting recent BIGGA chairman Andy Campbell with the management of the course. Wendy wrote an article about her time in the USA and how she thought the program helped her. It is accessible through this link.

Profile: Mr Bohuslav Shejbal, Czech Republic

Bohuslav trained at Broadmoor Golf Resort. Now, years after this experience, he says:
"I learned how to do things the proper way with the right timing with the right touch"
This experience helped him to get a job as a superintendent of 18 hole golf course near Prague. |
